Forest Service Inspects 'Eco-Friendly' Compliance at Timber Harvesting Sites
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service will inspect the implementation status of eco-friendly logging methods at timber harvesting sites.
The Korea Forest Service announced on the 26th that from the 26th of this month until the end of next month, it will conduct on-site inspections to check compliance with timber harvesting regulations and the implementation status of eco-friendly logging.
The inspection targets are 2,146 sites (24,812 hectares) of timber harvesting areas with logging permits issued in the past three years, each site being 5 hectares or larger.
Through the inspection, the Korea Forest Service plans to specify matters requiring system improvements or corrective actions, prepare detailed improvement measures, and reflect the opinions of stakeholders such as foresters, the forest industry, experts in forestry and ecosystems, and non-profit private organizations in timber harvesting policies.
Additionally, the agency will conduct surveys on the risk of landslide damage during the summer monsoon season by region in timber harvesting areas, and in cooperation with the Korea Forest Engineering Association, which specializes in landslide investigations, will focus on inspecting the disposal of residues within timber harvesting sites and the restoration status of transport roads.
