Korea-Germany Defense Industry Cooperation: "Optimal Partners"
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] South Korea and Germany have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defense and defense industry sectors.
According to the Ministry of National Defense on the 26th, Minister of National Defense Seo Wook held a meeting with German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer at the Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan, Seoul, this morning and agreed to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Minister Kramp-Karrenbauer expressed hope to activate cooperation with South Korea, which was designated as a key cooperation partner in the German government's 'Indo-Pacific Policy Guidelines' announced in September last year. In response, Minister Seo stated that South Korea and Germany would be the optimal partners for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region from historical, geopolitical, and strategic perspectives, and the Ministry of National Defense reported that he actively agreed to the proposal to strengthen cooperation in defense and defense industry sectors between the two countries.
Minister Seo also explained the status of Germany's participation as a medical support country, which was upgraded in 2018 from a war participant country that provided medical personnel during the Korean War and treated more than 300,000 patients, along with the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the regional situation to Minister Kramp-Karrenbauer. Minister Kramp-Karrenbauer expressed support for South Korea's Korean Peninsula peace process and requested a visit from Minister Seo to Germany.
This visit, the first by a German defense minister in 14 years since Minister Franz Josef Jung in 2007, was made in the context of strengthening cooperation with Germany's Indo-Pacific regional policy.
