Gwangju Seo-gu's Strong Steps Toward Creating a '2045 Carbon Neutral City'
‘Climate Crisis Response Task Force’ Launched... 추진 of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Measures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) has taken a strong step toward creating a 2045 carbon-neutral city with the cooperation of civic groups, businesses, and administration.
Seo-gu announced on the 26th the official launch of the ‘Climate Crisis Response Promotion Team.’
Composed of a total of 15 members including administration, district council members, businesses, civic groups, and environmental experts, the team will advise and review Seo-gu’s climate crisis response and carbon neutrality promotion strategies over the next two years.
It is expected that an organizational foundation will be established to support the realization of carbon neutrality by 2045 by playing a key role at the center while each citizen reduces greenhouse gases in their daily lives to respond to the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality.
Based on this, Seo-gu will implement specific greenhouse gas reduction measures.
In the energy sector, it will promote resident-participatory fuel cell power generation projects and renewable energy convergence support projects.
In the air quality sector, it will carry out pilot zone support projects for fine dust clean management and install and operate cooling fog systems to respond to climate change.
In the water quality sector, it will create experiential villages for stream restoration and hold the Gwangjucheon BioBlitz event to save local waterways. In the waste sector, it will operate mobile children’s resource circulation classrooms and conduct ice pack collection and exchange projects.
Additionally, efforts will be focused on various projects for realizing carbon neutrality in the green space sector, road transportation sector, agriculture and livestock sector, and citizen participation sector.
Based on the Climate Crisis Response Promotion Team, the district plans to discuss major issues related to carbon neutrality and climate change response, adapt more effectively to the climate crisis, and contribute to creating a carbon-neutral Seo-gu.
