Ministry of Education to Announce Full Return-to-School Plan for Second Semester Next Month
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Eun-hye Consults with 17 Metropolitan and Provincial Education Superintendents on Strengthening Quarantine Measures
Discusses School Density and Other Issues in the Revised Level 4 Social Distancing System
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education will announce plans and measures to promote full in-person attendance for the second semester next month.
On the 26th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye held a video conference with superintendents from 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education at the Government Sejong Complex to discuss measures to strengthen quarantine, prerequisites for full in-person attendance, and preparations.
During the meeting, they discussed adjustments to school density in accordance with the revised four-stage social distancing measures to be applied from July. The Ministry of Education plans to announce a 'Roadmap for Full Student Attendance in the Second Semester' in June after further consultations with quarantine authorities and school sites.
At the meeting, the National Council of Superintendents proposed jointly promoting a comprehensive measure called the '(tentative name) National Education Recovery Project' to address the complex deficits in students' academics, emotions, and social skills caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, "If the learning deficits, emotional, and social issues caused by the prolonged COVID-19 situation accumulate, they will inevitably have long-term negative effects on the growth and development of our children." She added, "We will actively review the Education Recovery Project proposed by the Council of Superintendents and closely cooperate with related agencies to prepare comprehensive measures that can support students in all aspects."
