'Fast & Furious' John Cena Apologizes to China After Calling Taiwan a "Country"
Apologized Directly in Chinese via Weibo
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Hollywood actor John Cena, who appeared in the movie "Fast & Furious 9: The Ultimate" (hereafter Fast & Furious 9), apologized for referring to Taiwan as a "country" to Chinese audiences.
China's state-run Global Times reported on the 25th that "Cena posted an apology video on his Weibo."
He faced criticism from Chinese audiences after saying at a promotional event in Taiwan on the 18th, "Taiwan is the first country where Fast & Furious 9 is released," which was seen as not recognizing the "One China" principle.
In the video, Cena said in Chinese, "I deeply regret making a mistake," and "I respect and love China and the Chinese people." The Global Times pointed out that he did not specifically mention what mistake he made.
