Five Marriage Immigrant Women in Gokseong-gun Pass High School Equivalency Exam
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 25th that five marriage immigrant women passed the 2021 high school equivalency exam.
Since 2015, Gokseong-gun has been operating equivalency exam classes through the Healthy Family Multicultural Family Support Center to strengthen the capabilities and boost the self-esteem of marriage immigrants. As a result, eight people passed the middle school equivalency exam in 2017, and two passed the high school equivalency exam in 2020.
This year, due to social distancing caused by COVID-19, the equivalency exam classes could not be held. Instead, Gokseong-gun supported seven hopefuls with tuition fees so they could prepare for the exam individually.
Despite busy lives balancing work and family, the participants attended night academies and studied diligently, and ultimately five passed the high school equivalency exam.
Gokseong-gun expects that supporting the equivalency exam will enhance marriage immigrants' spirit of challenge, sense of achievement, and self-esteem, as well as aid their social adaptation and guidance of their children's learning.
