Unid Character and Woori Bank Secure Series A Investment
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Jeong-su] Global animation production company Unid Character Co., Ltd. announced on the 24th that it has secured Series A investment worth 2.7 billion KRW. Investors include Capital One, Woori Bank, and Midas Donga Investment.
Unid Character is a company that produces characters, animations, and educational content. Currently, it is producing the TV animation "Cricket Pang," which is based on cricket, the national sport of India, and has been airing on major OTT channels in India, the United States, Sweden, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East since March of this year. In South Korea, it is scheduled to air on terrestrial TV in June.
Recently, it signed a local promotional ambassador contract with Ajinkya Rahane, a member of the Indian national cricket team. It is accelerating local commercialization by signing a publishing contract with HarperCollins, a major Indian publisher. As the animation's broadcast expands, it is conducting various additional businesses such as licensing merchandise and educational content services with prominent partners.
This investment involved Woori Bank, Capital One, a mother fund, and Midas Donga Investment, a content-specialized investment company. Following seed investment from the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, it is evaluated that the potential of the Cricket Pang animation was recognized by major institutional investors ahead of its full-scale global expansion.
Song Min-su, CEO of Unid Character, said, "With this Series A investment, it has become possible to produce Cricket Pang Season 2, new animations targeting the global market, and a children's educational content platform," adding, "We plan to establish a local corporation in India and significantly strengthen our overseas business organization to leap forward as a global IP company."
Meanwhile, Unid Character has set 2024 as the target year for its initial public offering (IPO) following series investments.
