[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The rooftop resting area of Sindang Nuri Center, the first public complex building in Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Yang-ho), has been renovated into a shared community space where residents can meet, communicate, enjoy, and learn, and opened its doors on the 21st.
On February 1st, the district opened the Sindang Nuri Center, a public complex building that includes a library, book cafe, indoor playground for infants and toddlers, and a community center?facilities long desired by residents for their convenience.
With the opening of Sindang Nuri Center, the district can actively respond to various administrative demands such as welfare and culture, and realize a living SOC where any resident can fully enjoy desired public services within a 10-minute walk in their daily life.
The rooftop "Haneul Nuri" on the 7th floor of Sindang Nuri Center, which offers a panoramic view of Jung-gu, was created after three months of preparation to become a happy resting place for residents.
Haneul Nuri is equipped with various convenience facilities ranging from single seats for facility staff and visitors to a large wooden floor (Daecheongmaru) where people can comfortably converse, making it an urban healing resting place where anyone can relax away from daily life.
In addition to the landscaped resting area, various equipment such as sound systems and beam projectors have been installed, transforming it into a venue suitable for small resident gatherings, education, and events. It will serve various roles for residents as a neighborhood learning center supporting mutual growth, a public forum for communication and cooperation activities, and sometimes as a community room for exchanging daily information and continuing communal activities.
The name of this shared space, a diverse gathering place for residents, was chosen as "Haneul Nuri" through a public contest held at Jung-gu Square, selected from a total of 44 submissions, meaning "an urban resting place where you can look at the sky and heal."
The opening ceremony was held simply in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, with attendance by Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, City Council member Park Soon-gyu, Jung-gu council members, and resident representatives, who graced the occasion.
Along with the opening ceremony, a special flower tea making class was held at the Sindang-dong neighborhood learning center, allowing participating residents to take the first step in utilizing the newly renovated Haneul Nuri as a learning space.

Mayor Seo Yang-ho stated, "Haneul Nuri has been designed as a healing resting place where anyone can comfortably come and enjoy, as well as an open space for meeting, communication, and shared enjoyment," adding, "I hope Haneul Nuri will provide a comfortable space for residents and become a local landmark supporting mutual growth among residents."
