'Berserk' Manga Artist, Miura Kentaro, Passes Away
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] Kentaro Miura, the author of the popular manga "Berserk," which has been serialized for over 30 years and adapted into animations, passed away on the 6th due to acute aortic dissection. He was 54 years old.
According to NHK on the 20th, Kentaro was from Chiba Prefecture and debuted as a manga artist in 1985 by publishing his work in a manga magazine.
Kentaro's representative work is Berserk, which has been serialized in manga magazines since the first year of the Heisei era (1989). It is a dark fantasy depicting the journey of a swordsman living in a time of war seeking revenge for his comrades. The unique worldview and detailed depictions gained popularity, and it has been serialized for over 30 years. It was also produced as a television animation and movies, translated into 20 countries, and became a hot topic overseas. The global cumulative sales, including e-books, have exceeded 50 million copies.

Hakusensha, the publisher serializing the late author's work, stated that Kentaro had been continuing his work activities until recently. Upon announcing the news of his passing, Hakusensha said, "We offer our utmost respect and gratitude to Miura-sensei's artistic career and sincerely pray for his happiness in the afterlife." Editors of the magazine "Young Animal," which serialized the work, mentioned, "We never saw Miura-sensei with an angry face. He was always like a joyful boy."
