Child Abuse at Eunpyeong District Public Daycare Center: "Repeatedly Assaulted and Forced to Eat Food"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Allegations have been raised that a teacher abused 2- to 3-year-old children at a public daycare center in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.
On the 19th, according to the police, the Western Seoul Police Station received a report from the daycare center director that two teachers were abusing children and is currently verifying the facts.
Teacher A is suspected of repeatedly hitting and force-feeding 14 children born in 2018 whom she was in charge of at the daycare center. Additionally, teacher B from the same class is reported to have been complicit by ignoring these facts. The abuse was uncovered when a parent, after hearing their child say "I was hit by the teacher" on the 11th, visited the daycare center and reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
After reviewing part of the two months of stored CCTV footage, it was revealed that Teacher A repeatedly abused the children on several occasions, including on the 11th. A grabbed the back of the children's necks and force-fed them to the point of vomiting, or kicked children who were playing well, causing them to fall. When a child was unable to control urination, A threw the diaper, and in a classroom where girls and boys were together, A reportedly left a child naked.
When parents who learned of the abuse threatened to report it to the police, the director pleaded to delay the report but later voluntarily reported it. Amid the controversy, the daycare center reportedly recommended the resignation of Teachers A and B the day before.
