KCC Announces 2020 Broadcast Evaluation Basic Plan... Review Starts in June
For 154 Business Operators
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 18th that it has approved the basic plan for the 2020 broadcasting evaluation to improve the quality of broadcasting programs and enhance the public responsibility of broadcasting.
The target companies are a total of 154 broadcasting operators (366 broadcasting stations) that receive re-licensing or re-approval according to the Broadcasting Act. They will be evaluated on content, scheduling, and operation areas for their broadcasting performance from January 1 to December 31 of last year.
According to the plan approved on this day, the KCC will receive performance data from the evaluation targets starting in June, conduct reviews, and announce the final results in December after deliberation by the Broadcasting Evaluation Committee and approval by the KCC.
The broadcasting evaluation results will be reflected at a certain ratio in the re-licensing and re-approval examinations of broadcasting operators in accordance with Article 17 of the Broadcasting Act.
In addition, the criteria for calculating fines for violations by broadcasting and IPTV operators have been improved to enhance regulatory fairness among operators and the appropriateness of imposing fines.
