Search of Son Jeongmin's Friend's Phone by Civilians Ends... Police Continue
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The private volunteer team that has been searching the phone of friend A to help determine the cause of death of Son Jeong-min (22), who went missing and was found dead at Seoul Hangang Park, decided to end their activities on the 15th.
The private search team Atom stated on the day, "We conclude with high probability that the iPhone 8 was not discarded underwater or on land at the Banpo Hangang Park water taxi dock." The police had previously revealed that A's phone model was an iPhone 8 Space Gray.
The private divers explained that they searched underwater using detection equipment for a total of three days on the 10th, 11th, and the day of the announcement, and discovered a total of five phones.
Son went missing after drinking with A near the Banpo Hangang Park water taxi boarding area from around 11 p.m. on the 24th of last month until about 2 a.m. the next day. He was found dead underwater in the Hangang River not far from the disappearance site on the 30th of last month.
A's phone was identified as a key clue that could resolve suspicions surrounding Son's disappearance but its whereabouts remain unknown. On the day of the disappearance, the 25th of last month, A was seen holding Son's phone when meeting Son's family and others. Son's body found in the Hangang River did not have A's phone.
