[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 13th, Hapcheon County in Gyeongnam, Korea Water Resources Corporation Hapcheon Dam Branch, and the Hapcheon County Residents' Autonomous Environmental Management Cooperative signed a business agreement for the ‘Hapcheon Dam Upstream River Trash Residents' Autonomous Management Project’ at the county office small conference room. The ceremony was attended by Moon Jun-hee, Mayor of Hapcheon County, Oh Seung-hwan, Head of Korea Water Resources Corporation Hapcheon Dam Branch, Lee Jong-cheol, Chairman of Hapcheon County Residents' Autonomous Environmental Management Cooperative, and other related officials.
This agreement was prepared to efficiently promote the autonomous management project aimed at protecting the river environment and creating jobs for local residents.
This project, conducted for the first time this year, assigns the environmental management cooperative (a social economy enterprise) composed of local residents to be fully responsible for collecting trash from the upstream river of Hapcheon Dam. Korea Water Resources Corporation will pay the cooperative based on the trash collection performance.
According to the business agreement, the county will provide project guidance and active administrative support for fostering social economy enterprises, while the Korea Water Resources Corporation Hapcheon Dam Branch will handle coordination with related organizations, securing budgets, project implementation, and management.
The cooperative will recruit local residents to participate in the project and carry out trash collection operations.
