Chonnam National University Students Launch '#save Myanmar' Project Supporting Myanmar Democratization
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Students at Chonnam National University are conducting a fundraising campaign by producing and selling items engraved with support messages for Myanmar.
The English Language and Literature Student Council at Chonnam National University announced on the 10th that they are carrying out the ‘#save Myanmar’ project in support of Myanmar's democratization.
They will conduct fundraising activities for two days, on the 13th and 14th, at the 5·18 Plaza and in front of Humanities Building 3 on campus.
The students planned products such as coasters, keychains, and rubber bracelets engraved with support messages and designs for Myanmar, using a fund of about 1 million won provided by the faculty. All proceeds will be donated to organizations supporting Myanmar’s democratization movement.
On the 7th, the English Department Student Council and BK21 Education Research Group invited Yoon Ji-hyun, Secretary General of Amnesty International Korea, online to hear about the human rights situation in Myanmar and to explore ways for civic solidarity.
On the 16th of last month, they held a special lecture by inviting Myanmar students enrolled at Chonnam National University and external experts, maintaining continuous interest in Myanmar’s democratization activities.

The English Department Student Council and BK Education Research Group said, “We planned this project with the hope that the spirit of May in Gwangju will be inherited by Myanmar’s democratization movement.”
