Seongdong-gu Innovation Education District Parent Committee Launched
Last Year, 28 Projects in 4 Fields Promoted... This Year, Strengthening Communication with Parent Committees, 'Visiting Creative Hanmadang Project Briefing Session' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) held the ‘2021 Seongdong Innovation Education District Parent Committee Launch Ceremony’ at the Seongdong Youth Center Rainbow Theater on the 28th of last month, officially marking the start of this year’s Innovation Education District project.
The Seongdong Innovation Education District project is a public-private-academic cooperation initiative involving Seoul City, the Office of Education, the district office, the education support office, and local residents. It aims to realize an educational community through cooperation between local society and schools, supporting children and youth to grow as agents of life in both school and their communities.
Since its launch in 2016, Seongdong Innovation Education promoted 28 projects across four areas last year, including the operation of public-private-academic governance. In response to the COVID-19 situation, it actively sought alternatives such as small-scale and online programs.
There were achievements such as strengthening the functions of the Innovation Education online platform and producing promotional videos, conducting video production technique training for 43 community instructors to enhance their capabilities, and discovering projects for community instructor research clubs.
This year, the plan is to encourage the voluntary operation of the online platform by the parent committee, establish an online network, and create a communication space to share various educational contents.
Additionally, the ‘Visiting Creative Festival Project Briefing Sessions’ will be held on a small scale to expand school curricula in collaboration with the community.
Along with this, support will be provided for the operation of community instructor research clubs and the hosting of on/offline donation fairs for community education, establishing a system to strengthen the capabilities of community instructors. Support for the community education community will also be enhanced by expanding the operation targets of the Hope Learning Center Rainbow Classroom from local children’s centers to the Aikkum Nuriter.
The parent committee, composed of 86 parents, will play a pivotal role in this year’s Innovation Education District project alongside community activists, teachers, and youth committees through this launch ceremony. They plan to strengthen parental capabilities through parent-led creative experience activities such as the ‘Parent Creative Festival’ and the ‘Parent Growth Academy,’ and share annual activity outcomes at the ‘Parent Union Creative Festival.’

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “The recent rapid growth of public education in Seongdong was made possible through active district government support such as increased education expenses and the valuable ideas of parents. The various opinions on improving outdated educational facilities, supporting school programs, and expanding libraries originated from the dedicated role of the parent committee. We will continue to actively support so that children can move toward healthy dreams within a strong educational community centered on the parent committee.”
