Korean Air Notified of Fine Plan for Processing Sexual Harassment Perpetrator's Resignation Without Disciplinary Action
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seung-jin] Korean Air has been notified of a fine for violating the Act on Equal Employment and Support for Work-Family Reconciliation after processing an internal sexual harassment perpetrator's resignation without disciplinary action.
According to the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions on the 6th, the Central Regional Employment and Labor Office recently notified Korean Air of its intention to impose a fine, stating that the company's failure to take appropriate measures against the perpetrator and processing the resignation violates the Act on Equal Employment and Support for Work-Family Reconciliation, in relation to a complaint filed by sexual harassment victim A.
The Act on Equal Employment and Support for Work-Family Reconciliation stipulates that when sexual harassment occurs in the workplace, the employer must listen to the victim's opinion and take necessary measures such as disciplining the perpetrator.
Earlier, Korean Air employee A filed a complaint last year, claiming that despite being sexually assaulted by a superior and others, the company processed the perpetrator's resignation without disciplinary action.
The Central Regional Employment and Labor Office notified Korean Air of its intention to issue corrective orders regarding the failure to investigate other employees currently working among the perpetrators involved in A's sexual harassment case.
