All Beef Supplied for School Meals in Jeonnam Region Confirmed as 'Hanwoo'
Jeonnam Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Center, Comprehensive Genetic Analysis
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory announced on the 4th that all the Hanwoo genes in the beef supplied for school meals to elementary, middle, and high schools were confirmed to be 'Hanwoo'.
This inspection was conducted on 46 samples of beef for school meals collected and requested by the city and county education support offices to strengthen the safety of beef supplied to growing adolescents.
To verify the authenticity of Hanwoo, advanced genetic analysis equipment was used to comprehensively analyze genes that indicate differences between cattle breeds and individuals.
The Jeonnam Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory plans to continue inspections in the second half of this year and regularly test beef sold at retail meat shops to eradicate the practice of selling beef disguised as Hanwoo.
