[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Jade Garden Arboretum, operated by Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, announced on the 3rd that it is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Opened in July 2011 in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, with the concept of 'A Small Europe in the Forest,' Jade Garden has welcomed 5 million domestic and international visitors to date.
Jade Garden is set on approximately 160,000㎡ of land with a garden area of about 100,000㎡. It features a total of 26 themed gardens, including the Italian Wedding Garden, English Border Garden, Cottage Garden, Rhododendron Field, and White Garden, housing around 4,000 plant species. The arboretum preserves the natural valley terrain and creates an overall European atmosphere through its floral and tree arrangements, architectural styles, and building layouts.
Jade Garden not only exhibits plants but also engages in various research activities through partnerships with other arboretums. It has been conducting the 'Daylily Research Project' with the Korea National Arboretum for seven years. Through continuous research, it has established a daylily collection and a specialized daylily garden, and since last year, it has been hosting daylily photo and detailed illustration exhibitions. Educational workshops are held for related institutions such as botanical gardens and arboretums, sharing information on daylily characteristics, cultivation, and management methods free of charge, along with providing educational materials.
In March last year, Jade Garden signed a memorandum of understanding with the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum, a public institution under the Korea Forest Service, regarding the collection and preservation of seeds and joint research. Both institutions cooperate on the duplicate preservation of forest plant seeds in seed vaults, collection and propagation of forest plant resources, exchange of plant information including seeds and specimens, joint research on forest plant resources, and human resource development.
To celebrate Family Month, Jade Garden has prepared various promotions. Visitors to Jade Garden until May 31 can enjoy free admission to a special photo exhibition. This exhibition, held in the Hosta Garden, captures the arboretum’s 10-year history under the theme 'Before & After,' allowing visitors to appreciate Jade Garden’s journey. The 10th-anniversary daylily photo exhibition is also held at the same location.
