The National Courier Workers' Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Service Federation held a press conference in front of CJ Logistics headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, demanding "CJ Logistics resolve the courier crisis" and requested a labor-management meeting. On the same day, the union also submitted a complaint to the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office against CJ Logistics CEO Kang Shin-ho and the agency manager responsible for the apartment.
They stated, "Low-floor vehicles have a structure that forces workers to bend their waists or crawl on their knees when loading and unloading courier items, causing serious musculoskeletal disorders and industrial safety hazards," and argued that the company's act of forcing the introduction of low-floor vehicles violates the ISHA.
The union sent an official letter on the 21st of this month to the residents' representative meeting of the Godeok-dong apartment and CJ Logistics headquarters inquiring about the facts regarding the agreement on the introduction of low-floor vehicles. However, it is reported that no official response has been received to date.
The union stated, "There are hundreds of apartments nationwide where courier vehicles are prohibited from ground access, and courier workers there are enduring difficult situations reluctantly," and added, "We will start a strong struggle against courier companies."
Kim Tae-wan, senior vice chairman of the Courier Workers' Union, said, "There are about 2,000 to 3,000 courier workers suffering from low-floor trucks, and the apartment parkification will spread further," adding, "At the regular delegates' meeting on the 25th, during the discussion on how to solve this issue, the delegates shed tears and appealed that they hope this problem will be resolved this time."
