On the 28th, President Bae said through HMM's '2020 Sustainability Management Report,' "We will spare no investment in research on eco-friendly vessels and facilities, opening new routes, increasing shipping capacity, and IT sectors."
He added, "Together with employees who are customer-oriented and uphold corporate ethics, we will respond more actively to diverse customer demands," and "We will strive to become an HMM that leads by example in all areas of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance)."
According to HMM's '2020 Sustainability Management Report,' since establishing a sustainability management system in 2019, the company improved to an ESG-centered system last year and set goals for each ESG sector through 2025.
In the environmental sector, the focus is on systematic eco-friendly management and climate change response centered on core values such as climate change response, eco-friendly logistics, and safety and health. In the social sector, goals include realizing sustainable communities involving supply chains, customers, employees, and local communities. In governance, goals include establishing sound governance based on ethical management and human rights management.
HMM plans to create results through continuous investment not only in financial performance but also in non-financial areas such as environment, labor, human rights, ethics, and social contribution, and actively fulfill corporate social responsibility in the future.
The company has set mid- to long-term goals for global-level sustainability management performance management and plans to carry out continuous activities to enhance corporate value and competitiveness.
With transparent disclosure of non-financial factors and increased trust from stakeholders such as customers, shareholders, and local communities, HMM recently received a 'Silver' rating in the global corporate sustainability assessment by EcoVadis, a France-based evaluation agency.
EcoVadis is a global evaluation agency that assesses companies' environmental and social impacts. Sustainability and supply chain experts evaluate companies' ESG policies and performance based on scientific CSR evaluation methodologies.
In this evaluation, HMM improved scores in all four major categories?environment, human rights & labor, ethics, and sustainable procurement?compared to 2019. It received high evaluations in policy establishment, relevance, and data covering all environmental areas including climate change, air quality, waste, hazardous substances, water resources, and local community ecosystem protection.
