Jeongeup-si Operates National Pest and Disease Monitoring and Control Team
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 27th that it will operate a surveillance and control team to respond quickly and manage efficiently the nationally controlled pests and diseases in the fruit tree sector that occur sporadically every year.
Nationally controlled pests and diseases refer to sudden pests, quarantine pests, and invasive pests, which cause fatal damage to crops once infected.
These include fire blight, anthracnose, brown-winged cicada, flower cicada, American wax scale, and peach shoot borer.
Accordingly, the city plans to establish a rapid surveillance and control system to prevent the spread of increasing invasive and quarantine pests and strengthen a field-centered surveillance and control system utilizing pest and disease experts.
To this end, the city has secured two pest and disease surveillance and control personnel.
The surveillance and control team conducts continuous monitoring not only for major crop pests and diseases but also to confirm the occurrence and prevent the spread of quarantine pests.
In addition, they plan to diagnose pest and disease requests from farmers on-site and provide guidance on control methods and techniques suitable for the occurrence period.
In particular, five observation plots for pests and diseases across 20 sites of different crops have been selected, and bi-monthly periodic surveillance will be conducted to provide information on major pests and diseases.
