Greece Exempts Koreans from Conditional Quarantine Requirement
Quarantine Exemption from the 26th for 7 Countries Including Korea and Australia
For Those with Vaccination Certificates or Negative COVID-19 Test Results
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Greece exempts Koreans who have tested negative for COVID-19 or have been vaccinated from quarantine obligations.
According to major foreign media on the 25th (local time), the Greek Ministry of Transport announced that from the 26th, it will implement conditional quarantine exemption for visitors coming from countries including Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Thailand, Rwanda, and Singapore.
Visitors entering Greece from these countries who possess a negative COVID-19 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test certificate or vaccination certificate will be exempt from the 7-day quarantine obligation.
Greece, eager to resume tourism, had earlier on the 19th lifted quarantine obligations for visitors from over 30 countries including European Union (EU) member states, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Serbia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
Among the countries subject to conditional quarantine exemption, Israel has been applying this measure since last month under a separate agreement with Greece.
This measure was proactively taken to revitalize the economy, as tourism is a major pillar of the Greek economy. Last month, the Greek government announced plans to officially reopen its borders and resume tourism from May 15.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced last week that signs of stabilization in the spread of COVID-19 have appeared and announced the easing of COVID-19 control measures.
Greece plans to gradually ease COVID-19 control measures starting May 3.
Outdoor restaurants and cafes will reopen under conditions such as maintaining distance between seats and mandatory self-testing for employees, and curfew hours will also be relaxed.
The Greek government expects the situation this summer to be better than last summer due to vaccination of tourism workers and widespread PCR testing.
