Dongwon F&B Strengthens Yogurt Market Strategy... Expands 'Denmark Yogurmil' to 50 Billion KRW Scale
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Dongwon F&B is strengthening its attack on the third-generation convenient meal replacement yogurt market with the ‘Denmark Yogermil’ brand.
Dongwon F&B announced on the 26th that it will operate ‘Denmark Yogermil’ as an integrated brand for third-generation convenient meal replacement (CMR) yogurts and plans to lead the market by introducing various products that combine yogurt with grains, salads, and toppings. Dongwon F&B aims to achieve sales of 40 billion KRW for ‘Denmark Yogermil’ this year and grow the brand to a scale of 50 billion KRW by 2022.
Yogurt has evolved from the first-generation fruit yogurt, which was used as a dessert with strawberries and peaches, to the second-generation plain yogurt emphasizing functionality such as being unsweetened and promoting gut health. Recently, it has evolved into a third-generation convenient meal replacement yogurt that can simply replace a meal.
In fact, the domestic third-generation yogurt market is rapidly growing every year. According to market research firm Nielsen Korea, the size of the domestic third-generation yogurt market increased by 67.5% from 32.8 billion KRW in 2017 to 54.9 billion KRW in 2018, and grew by 64.8% to 90.5 billion KRW in 2019 compared to the previous year. Based on this growth trend, it surpassed 100 billion KRW in 2020.
The newly launched four types of ‘Denmark Yogermil Grains’ are convenient meal replacement products containing whole grains such as oats, barley, and black rice in yogurt. Each product adds sweet pumpkin or purple sweet potato to enjoy both sweetness and nuttiness. Recently, the ‘Denmark Yogermil Seed’ product was also released, adding nuttiness and texture with pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.
The three types of ‘Denmark Yogermil Salad’ are products that contain salads made with various fruits and vegetables in yogurt. Following blueberry salad and apple salad, the recently launched ‘Denmark Yogermil Strawberry Salad’ allows consumers to enjoy fruits and vegetables according to their preferences. Each cup contains dietary fiber equivalent to one apple and 15 billion probiotic lactic acid bacteria, which can help improve gut health.
The three types of ‘Denmark Yogermil Flip’ are topping yogurts with containers divided into two compartments: one side contains smooth plain yogurt, and the other side contains crispy toppings such as Wang Choco Ring, Wang Choco Ball, and granola, allowing consumers to mix the two. The flip-type container folds in half to make it easy to mix yogurt and toppings.
