Jungnang-gu Distributes 1,000 Eco-Friendly Box Gardens... Grow and Eat Lettuce at Home
Applications for Eco-friendly Box Gardens Open from 10 AM on the 26th to 11 PM on the 30th... Local Residents Can Apply by Paying Only an 8,000 Won Fee... Includes Cultivation Container, Soil, Seedlings, and Growing Manual Set
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is distributing 1,000 sets of eco-friendly box gardens to local residents.
Any Jungnang-gu resident can apply by paying only a personal fee of 8,000 KRW per box garden set. Each household can apply for up to 2 sets.
The box gardens being distributed this time have the advantage that even beginners can easily and simply grow seedlings at home as long as there is a small space such as an apartment veranda or rooftop.
Each set consists of a cultivation container (66×40×23cm), 30 liters of potting soil, 8 seedlings (lettuce varieties), and a cultivation manual. The cultivation container can be chosen between white and green.
Applications are accepted from 10 a.m. on the 26th until 11 p.m. on the 30th through the Jungnang-gu Office website (Citizen Participation → Internet Application).
Winners will be selected by random computerized drawing and will be individually notified and posted on the website on May 4. The garden sets will be delivered sequentially starting May 13.
Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “I hope residents gain a sense of fulfillment and joy by easily cultivating crops at home through eco-friendly box gardens,” and added, “We will expand the distribution scale so that more residents can experience urban agriculture through accessible box gardens.”
In March, the district distributed gardens at Jungnang Happiness Farm, and on the 16th, held a seedling sharing event at Jungnang Happiness 1 Farm. Currently, there are Jungnang Happiness Farms in Sinnae-dong and Mangu-dong, and thanks to the enthusiastic interest of residents every year, an additional farm will be established near Baebat Park in Mangu 3-dong this year.
