[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A man in the UK secretly hid a camera in his shoe and illegally filmed ordinary people, resulting in at least 250 victims. The final court sentenced the man to 3 years of community service, according to local media such as Metro on the 21st (local time).
According to local media, a man named Richard Wiley (32) committed illegal filming crimes in the Worcester area of the UK for about two months from June to August 2019.
Wiley modified his shoe himself to hide a 'GoPro' camera so that it would not be noticeable. It is reported that he wore these shoes and illegally filmed women walking around his house without clothes on, as well as sex videos.
In August 2019, his crime of filming women without consent at a large clothing store in Worcester was discovered by a teenage girl.
The girl, who was 16 at the time, heard the 'click' sound of the camera while shopping and reported it to the store staff. Afterwards, the police used CCTV footage to arrest Wiley at the University of Worcester, where he worked.
The police found about 6,000 photos on his camera and computer, as well as two pairs of shoes modified to conceal the camera. The number of confirmed female victims was 250, and including those whose identities were not confirmed, even more women were victimized without realizing it.
