On the morning of the 23rd, Gwangju City held the launch ceremony of the ‘Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service’ on the 3rd floor of Hosimgwan at Gwangju University.
The event was organized into two parts: Part 1, a health nurse training completion ceremony, and Part 2, the launch ceremony of the Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service.
First, at the training completion ceremony, Gwangju University, the institution responsible for the training, awarded certificates to 48 health nurses who will provide the Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service. Following this, the health nurses read a declaration expressing their commitment to providing the service, and colorful paper airplanes were flown to mark the launch of the Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service and to wish for the health and blessings of mothers and newborns.
Previously, Gwangju University, selected as the executing institution for this project, conducted specialized health nurse training from the 29th of last month to the 22nd of this month. Through this program, 48 nursing personnel completed 104 hours of theoretical education and 18 hours of practical training at obstetrics and gynecology departments and postpartum care centers.
The ‘Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service’ is part of the policy to create a ‘Gwangju that is good for having and raising children,’ where professional nursing personnel visit childbirth families to provide postpartum health care services for mothers and newborns.
In particular, nurses or midwives visit childbirth families within 90 days after delivery to professionally assist with breast engorgement, breastfeeding massage, and breastfeeding, as well as manage newborn sleep. This service provides one-on-one customized care from health assessment to problem resolution for mothers and newborns, distinguishing it from the existing nationwide postpartum mother and newborn health care services.
The support target is mothers residing in Gwangju who have given birth within the last 90 days, regardless of income restrictions. The service is available for a total of 5 days, 4 hours per day, and can be used in divided sessions.
The fee is 20,000 KRW per hour, but depending on the individual household income level, support of 50% to 90% can be received.
The postpartum care public service will be provided starting next month. Mothers who wish to receive the service can apply from 30 days before the expected delivery date up to 30 days after delivery through the Gwangju I-Kium platform or the Gwangju Women and Family Foundation.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “I hope you will add your strength and wisdom with a sense of mission that the success of realizing a ‘Gwangju good for having and raising children’ depends on the shoulders of all health nurses,” and added, “Gwangju City will do its best to cooperate and support the success and expansion of the Gwangju-type Postpartum Care Public Service.”
