Sugoong to Further Reduce Water Usage Fees for Local Governments and Small Businesses
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Korea Water Resources Corporation announced on the 21st that it will further reduce dam water and metropolitan water supply fees for local governments, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and small business owners.
Previously, last year, the corporation provided a reduction of 5.7 billion KRW to 74 local governments nationwide, including special disaster areas, and 1,040 SMEs (including small business owners).
This additional reduction follows those implemented last year and in February this year. It targets 131 local governments nationwide and about 1,100 SMEs and small business owners who directly receive dam water or metropolitan water supply from the corporation, offering a one-month usage fee reduction.
For local governments, they must first reduce water fees for SMEs (including small business owners) within their regions and then apply for the fee reduction to the corporation by September this year. After receiving the application, the corporation calculates the reduction amount for the respective local government and deducts the reduced amount on the next month's bill. The actual reduction amount is linked to each local government's water supply reduction volume, and 50% of the usage fee will be reduced based on the ratio of dam water and metropolitan water supply usage.
For SMEs (including small business owners), about 1,100 companies directly supplied with dam water or metropolitan water supply from the corporation are eligible. Companies with usage under 1,000 tons in April this year will receive the reduction. These companies will receive a 70% reduction on their April usage fees without a separate application process.
The corporation expects that including this additional reduction, there will be a maximum local fiscal support effect of about 19 billion KRW.
