POSCO Energy Creates Carbon Neutral Forest in Samcheok
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO Energy held a tree planting event to create a carbon-neutral forest on the 21st in the Nogok-myeon area of Samcheok City. Representatives from Samcheok Blue Power, the investee company building the Samcheok Thermal Power Plant, the Dongbu Regional Forest Service of Samcheok City, and the Korea Climate Change Research Institute attended the event.
This forest creation project is the second-year event following the planting of 5,000 trees last year to restore damage caused by the 2019 wildfire, carried out by POSCO Energy together with Samcheok Blue Power. The two companies raised funds by donating a portion of their profits.

This year, 5,350 black locust trees will be planted on a 2-hectare site in the Nogok-myeon area. The company expects that these trees will absorb 600 tons of carbon dioxide over 30 years. The planting results will be registered in the government-led Forest Carbon Offset Program to certify greenhouse gas reduction achievements.
