Jeongeup-si Selected as the Best Institution in Job Policy Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 19th that it was selected as the best institution in the ‘2021 City and County Job Policy Evaluation’ hosted by Jeonbuk Province.
This evaluation was prepared to induce healthy competition among the 14 cities and counties in the province by evaluating the previous year's job policy implementation performance and providing incentives, thereby enhancing job creation capabilities.
The evaluation covered 17 items in 5 areas: efforts to create jobs, region-specific job projects, employment rate, employment support performance, publicity, and networking.
Despite the economic employment crisis caused by COVID-19, the city attracted 13 major companies including DSE Co., Ltd., Roytech, Hunter Co., Ltd., L&S, and Vigard, creating 368 new jobs.
In addition, to create youth jobs, the city made strenuous efforts by promoting region-led youth job projects, Jeonbuk-type youth employment support projects, urban regeneration youth internships, construction of youth maker spaces, and shoemaker training projects, resulting in the creation of about 140 jobs.
In particular, to create youth growth jobs, the city contributed to the settlement of young people in the region by establishing a Youth Maker Center and Startup Challenge Shop in the depressed old downtown area.
Also, by promoting the shoemaker training project that transfers traditional industry skills to local youth, the city preserved traditional industries and revitalized startups.
Along with this, the city attracted three major training centers including the National Pension Training Institute, JB Financial Group, and the Electrical Safety Training Institute, and invigorated the local economy through the operation of Dawonsys Co., Ltd.’s railway factory and the expansion of SK Nexilis factory.
Furthermore, the city made every effort to discover region-specific jobs by activating the advanced science industrial complex linked with Jeongeup’s traditional strengths of three major national research institutes and connecting it with the Naejangsan cluster.
Moreover, various job projects were promoted for vulnerable groups and workers in crisis, and the city stood out for efforts to solve youth job issues through the opening of the Youth Support Center and the enactment of the Youth Support Ordinance.
In addition, the city was recognized for its achievements in promoting Jeongeup-type job projects reflecting local conditions and characteristics, and actively deriving improvements through participant satisfaction surveys to reflect them in policies.
Recognizing these excellent achievements, the city secured a best institution award along with a financial incentive of 75 million KRW. The incentive will be used for job projects.
