Seongbuk-gu, SH, and Yonsei University agreed to support housing stability for residents by creating the 'Hope Agit,' an elderly-friendly universal supported housing, utilizing SH's vacant houses through organic cooperation based on practical knowledge, experience, and expertise.
First, SH will provide the target site and building (vacant house) for the Hope Agit and support remodeling. Yonsei University will be responsible for consulting on space planning for Hope Agit and advising on the activation of residential and economic community activities.
Seongbuk-gu will actively listen to and reflect residents' opinions on elderly support housing from the early design stages, such as public hearings, and conduct the selection and recruitment process of residents transparently and fairly. Seongbuk-gu will also manage and operate the housing facilities.
The first Hope Agit will be established in Samseon-dong. A vacant two-story house with a total floor area of 248.91㎡ has been remodeled to create living spaces for eight elderly households. It includes independent residential spaces suitable for elderly living, community spaces, a shared kitchen, and small-scale side business spaces.
Jung Yoo-seung, Head of SH Urban Regeneration Headquarters, said, “The neglected vacant houses have expanded from the youth group's Hope Agit utilization case to the 'Elderly-Friendly Universal Hope Agit,' combining Seongbuk-gu and Yonsei University's welfare systems and various know-how.” He added, “We hope the newly established Hope Agit will return vacant houses to the community and become a true home filled with joy and hope for elderly residents.”
Yonsei University Honorary Special Professor Lee Yeon-sook said, “As Korea is rapidly entering a super-aged society, I am very pleased to join Seongbuk-gu and SH as active partners in housing policy.” She added, “I will generously share my long-standing experience in developing community-friendly housing programs and operational models in preparation for a super-aged society.”
