Slight Increase in Employment in Gwangju in March
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The number of employed people in the Gwangju area last month slightly increased compared to a year ago.
According to the 'March Employment Trends' released by the Honam Regional Statistics Office on the 14th, the number of employed people in the Gwangju area was 744,000, an increase of 0.6% (4,000 people) compared to the same period last year.
By gender, there were 419,000 men and 324,000 women.
By industry, employment increased by 6.8% (11,000 people) in wholesale and retail trade, accommodation, and food service industries, and by 2.9% (9,000 people) in business, personal, and public services, while employment decreased in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, manufacturing, electricity, transportation, communication, and finance industries.
Employment in agriculture, forestry and fisheries decreased by 20.8% (3,000 people), manufacturing by 8.9% (10,000 people), and electricity, transportation, communication, and finance industries by 3% (2,000 people).
By occupation, office workers and those in skilled, machine operation, and simple assembly jobs increased by 3.9% (5,000 people) and 2.5% (6,000 people), respectively.
Skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fisheries decreased by 23% (4,000 people), service and sales workers by 1.3% (2,000 people), and managers and professionals by 0.4% (1,000 people).
The employment rate last month was 58.1%, down 0.1 percentage points from a year ago.
Among the employed, non-wage workers increased by 8.1% (14,000 people) compared to the same month last year, totaling 183,000 people. This increase was due to self-employed and unpaid family workers rising by 5.7% and 23.3%, respectively.
Wage workers decreased by 1.7% (10,000 people) during the same period, totaling 560,000 people. The decrease in regular and temporary workers by 3.4% (14,000 people) and 4.5% (6,000 people), respectively, was offset by a 40.5% (10,000 people) increase in daily workers.
By working hours, those employed less than 36 hours increased by 16.5% (23,000 people) to 164,000, and those employed 36 hours or more increased by 3% (17,000 people) to 570,000.
