According to data compiled by Yonhap News Agency from announcements by quarantine authorities and local governments, 426 people tested positive for COVID-19 from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day. This is 59 fewer than the 485 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Of these, 294 cases, nearly 70%, were in the Seoul metropolitan area, while 132 cases were in non-metropolitan areas. Since there is still time until midnight, when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 13th is expected to increase to the mid-500s, or possibly the high 500s. The number of new confirmed cases the previous day was 587. However, due to nationwide rainfall on this day, the number of tests conducted may have decreased compared to weekdays.
From the 6th of this month to the 12th, the number of new confirmed cases in the past week ranged from the high 400s to as many as 700. The daily average was 628 cases. The daily average of locally transmitted cases was 607, exceeding 600 for the first time in three months since mid-January.
