[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) signed a friendship agreement for regional mutual development between Gangdong-gu and Jeongeup City at Jeongeup City Hall on the 9th.
The signing ceremony was attended by about 30 people, including Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Yoo Jin-seop, Mayor of Jeongeup City, chairpersons of both city councils, and related officials, brightening the occasion.
Through this friendship agreement, Gangdong-gu and Jeongeup City agreed to seek mutual cooperation and joint development in various fields such as administration, economy, culture, and tourism.
The ceremony proceeded with the signing and exchange of the agreement, followed by the mutual exchange of commemorative gifts. Afterwards, the schedule included a site visit to recommended resort sites for residents and employees, as well as inspections of Naejangsan National Park and major cultural facilities.
By this agreement, the two cities will establish an active exchange and cooperation system across the entire local community based on the principles of mutual trust, sincerity, reciprocity, and equality. They will strive to promote substantial exchanges among local residents and organizations in the private sector and actively share necessary policies and information with each other.
In particular, they agreed to focus on cooperation in areas that practically benefit residents’ lives, such as supporting cultural exploration exchanges for children and youth, providing discounts for tourists visiting each other’s tourist attractions and cultural facilities, and promoting agricultural and marine specialty products.
Additionally, Gangdong-gu revised its ordinance in March to remove gender-biased elements from the previously used term “sister city” and to adopt a more objective term by changing “sister” to “friendship.”
This friendship agreement with Jeongeup City is especially meaningful as it is the first case to use the term “friendship” following the ordinance revision.
