On the 8th, Kwon Jun-wook, Deputy Head of the Central Disease Control Headquarters, stated at the regular briefing of the COVID-19 Central Disease Control Headquarters, "The European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced on the 7th (local time) the review results regarding the causal relationship between the AstraZeneca vaccine and certain rare blood clot occurrences," adding, "They reaffirmed that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks, so it is necessary to continue vaccination."
Deputy Head Kwon said, "The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team will first thoroughly analyze global trends and reported suspected adverse events related to the resumption of AstraZeneca vaccine administration," and added, "After discussions with domestic blood clot expert advisory groups, vaccine expert advisory groups, and the Vaccination Expert Committee, we currently plan to make an announcement by this weekend."
Deputy Head Kwon emphasized, "The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency prioritizes safety and scientific evidence in vaccination and vaccine administration," and stated, "Since vaccination was previously suspended as a precautionary measure, we will fully gather opinions from various experts to derive scientific and safe results regarding future vaccination systems and related matters."
