[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] At around 9:06 a.m. on the 8th, three trucks collided consecutively at the Cheongna International Underpass on the Incheon-bound side of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Outer Ring Expressway in Seo-gu, Incheon, resulting in two people sustaining serious injuries and being transported to the hospital.
According to witnesses and the police, a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, fell onto the road from the passenger seat of a 25-ton truck traveling in the second lane. The driver of a 1-ton truck behind tried to brake suddenly to avoid her but ended up crashing into the vehicle in front.
Shortly after, a 4.5-ton truck coming from behind collided with the 1-ton truck.
As a result of the accident, Ms. A and the 60-year-old male driver of the 1-ton truck were seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
During the accident handling, two of the three lanes on the one-way underpass were closed for over an hour, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
The accident occurred about 3.4 km from Bukcheongna IC toward Namcheongna IC on the Incheon-Gimpo Expressway.
Ms. A, who fell from the 25-ton truck, was identified as the daughter of the driver, a man in his 50s.
The driver stated that "his daughter, who had been suffering from depression, suddenly opened the passenger door and jumped out."
The police have secured black box footage from surrounding vehicles at the time of the accident and are investigating the drivers and witnesses to determine the exact cause of the accident.
