Musicow Develops Music Copyright Index MCPI... "Hope for Rational Investment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Music copyright trading platform 'Musicow' announced on the 8th that it has introduced the MCPI (MUSIC COPYRIGHT PROPERTY INDEX), an index based on music copyrights. It is expected to enable accurate monitoring of overall trends in the music copyright market.
MCPI is a total return index calculated from the copyrights listed on the platform through Musicow auctions, developed in consultation with Koscom. Considering the characteristics of music copyrights, which pay royalties monthly, and the reinvestment of those dividends, the index is calculated with the base date of January 1, 2019. To date, about 800 copyrights have been traded through Musicow.
A Musicow representative explained, "Copyrights are stable assets that generate monthly royalty income and are protected for 70 years after the original copyright holder's death under copyright law, maintaining long-term returns," adding, "There are also special factors for price increases such as reverse charting and remakes."
Last year, the average royalty yield for Musicow copyright investors was 8.7% annually compared to the purchase price. Currently, the platform has 350,000 members, with the number of users increasing by 438% and transaction volume by 368% compared to the previous year.
Jung Hyun-kyung, CEO of Musicow, said, "Through MCPI, we hope investors can grasp the overall flow of the music copyright market and make more rational investments," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that it does not become a temporary trend or speculative asset but establishes itself as a reliable major asset."

Meanwhile, Musicow is a company that has implemented a system enabling the trading of popular music copyrights. Based on past royalty data, it has developed its own royalty prediction system and releases 5 to 7 new songs weekly. The disclosed copyrights are auctioned sequentially from the highest bid. After the final bid, holders receive monthly royalties proportional to their copyright shares or can freely trade them later through the market.
