Muan-gun Promotes Scholarship Program for Academically Outstanding Students
Scholarships up to 5 Million KRW for High-Achieving First-Year High School Students
Over 35% of Scholarship Recipients Enroll in Prestigious Universities Including Seoul National University
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 8th that it is actively promoting a scholarship program that awards up to 5 million KRW to outstanding first-year high school freshmen based on academic excellence.
The scholarship program is one of the educational support projects aimed at preventing the outflow of local talent and actively supporting the development of prestigious high schools. This year, 110 million KRW will be awarded to 27 students.
The recipients are first-year high school freshmen who graduated from middle schools located in Muan County and ranked within the top 10% academically, enrolling in local high schools. Students in the top 5% will receive 5 million KRW, those ranked between the top 5% and 10% will receive 3 million KRW within the project budget, and five top-performing students from multicultural families will receive 2 million KRW each.
Since 2014, the county has awarded scholarships to a total of 204 academically outstanding students, and it has been confirmed that more than 35% of them have entered prestigious universities such as Seoul National University, KAIST, Yonsei University, and other universities in the metropolitan area.

Local high schools are recognized within the province not only for academic excellence but also for character development and excellent educational programs.” He added, “We will continue to implement various educational support policies to foster prestigious local high schools so that students can study diligently under their parents’ care after enrolling in local high schools.”
