Yuseonghun, Chairman of the Book Reading City Council (Geumcheon District Mayor), Launches 'Library Week Organizing Committee'
Geumcheon-gu Hosts Various Events for the '57th Library Week'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will hold various events starting from the 12th in celebration of the 57th Library Week, in collaboration with the Library Information Policy Committee.
To mark Library Week, four Geumcheon-gu public libraries will host diverse events for children users, such as the ‘Library Crossword Quiz’ (Siheung Library) and the relay message board ‘What Book Are You Reading?’ where users post the books they are currently reading (Doksan Library).
Additionally, various programs will be operated, including ‘Overdue User Liberation Week’ which waives overdue penalties upon returning overdue books, a ‘Picture Book Original Art Exhibition’ to help children access books, and a themed book exhibition ‘Book Curation’ aligned with the Library Week theme.
Library Week (April 12?18) has been operated since 1964 by the private sector (Korean Library Association) to raise public interest and promote library use. However, starting this year, the organizing committee is jointly formed and operated by the Library Committee, the National Library of Korea, and the Korean Library Association.
Earlier, on the 6th, Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu and Chairman of the Reading City Council, participated in the ‘57th Library Week Organizing Committee Inaugural Meeting’ held at the National Assembly Central Library, discussing ways to strengthen promotion of Library Week and increase resident participation through cooperation between the central government and local governments.
