Seongbuk-gu and Sungshin Women's University Selected as Finalists for the 2021 Smart Campus Challenge Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu and Sungshin Women's University have been selected as the final winners in the 2021 'Smart Challenge' project 'Campus Challenge category' announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Smart Challenge project is a region- and private sector-led initiative that develops and demonstrates smart solutions and smart services to innovatively solve various urban problems such as transportation, safety, environment, and welfare by applying 4th industrial revolution new technologies (artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data, etc.). The 'Campus Challenge category' is led by universities, with participation from companies and local governments, experimenting with innovative ideas on campuses, nearby commercial areas, and downtown, linking to commercialization such as startup creation for seed companies. It is promoted with project funding of 1.1 to 1.5 billion KRW.
This year, the first Campus Challenge contest received applications from 81 universities nationwide, attracting high interest with a 10 to 1 competition ratio.
Seongbuk-gu and Sungshin Women's University proposed a project to solve local urban problems through fire safety management incorporating new technologies with company participation. Following the final project selection, Seongbuk-gu will participate as a demonstration city from April this year until next year.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “We will actively cooperate to establish a smart electric fire prevention system introduced with advanced technologies from universities and companies and to make the Seongbuk-gu demonstration a successful model of a smart city.”
