Among them, the 50-year-old director of the daycare center showed symptoms of respiratory distress, received treatment, but passed away.
According to Incheon City on the 5th, following 19 confirmed cases related to the Yeonsu-gu chicken restaurant from the 28th of last month until the day before, an additional 21 people tested positive on this day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 40.
Among them, 19 were confirmed to be the director, teachers, and children of a daycare center in Yeonsu-gu.
At the daycare center, assistant teacher A tested positive the day before, and after comprehensive testing, 16 additional teachers and children were confirmed positive. Two family members who had contact with the teachers also tested positive, making the cumulative number of infections related to the daycare center 19 as of this day.
Among the confirmed cases, director B (51, female) visited the hospital last night due to sudden respiratory distress symptoms and received treatment but passed away on this day. After death, she tested positive for COVID-19.
Health authorities are investigating the exact cause of death, including whether B had any underlying conditions.
A, who was the first confirmed case related to the daycare center, reportedly showed suspected COVID-19 symptoms such as fever on the 19th of last month. Some teachers from other daycare centers were found to have visited the Yeonsu-gu chicken restaurant, where a recent small-scale cluster infection occurred.
