Early Voting Rate for April 7 By-Election at 3 PM: 6.36%

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] As of 3 PM on the first day of early voting for the April 7 by-elections, the turnout rate was recorded at 6.36%. Although this is lower compared to the 8.49% turnout at the same time during last year's general election, it is similar to the 6.26% turnout during the 7th local elections held in 2018.
According to the National Election Commission on the 2nd, out of 12,161,624 eligible voters nationwide, 773,468 participated in early voting as of 3 PM. The early voting rate stands at 6.36%.
The early voting rates in Seoul and Busan, which are the most closely watched areas in this by-election, were recorded at 6.66% and 6.11%, respectively.
In the Seoul mayoral election, 560,870 out of 8,425,869 voted, while in the Busan mayoral election, 179,286 out of 2,936,301 participated in early voting.
At the same time during the last general election, Seoul had an early voting rate of 8.29%, and Busan had 7.84%.
However, compared to the 7th local elections, the early voting rates in Seoul and Busan are higher. At that time, the early voting rates were 5.43% in Seoul and 5.32% in Busan.
This by-election is being held in 21 locations, including two metropolitan mayoral positions (Seoul and Busan), two basic local government heads (Ulsan Nam-gu District Mayor and Gyeongnam Uiryeong County Governor), eight metropolitan council seats (such as Gyeonggi Province and Chungbuk Province councilors), and nine basic council seats (such as Jeonnam Boseong County and Gyeongnam Haman County councilors).
