SPC Pack-SK General Chemical Jointly Develop Eco-Friendly Packaging
Joint Development of Eco-Friendly Packaging Using Single Material, Recycled Plastics, and Biodegradable Options
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SPC Pack, a packaging production subsidiary of SPC Group, and SK General Chemical, a subsidiary of SK Innovation, are joining forces to establish an eco-friendly plastic ecosystem.
On the 31st, SPC Pack and SK General Chemical announced that they signed a business agreement for joint development of eco-friendly packaging at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, attended by SPC Pack CEO Kim Chang-dae and SK General Chemical President Na Kyung-soo.
Under this agreement, the two companies will collaborate in areas such as ▲development of single-material plastic packaging to facilitate recycling ▲development of packaging using recycled plastic (PCR) ▲development of eco-friendly biodegradable packaging.
Additionally, they will establish a circular system to collect and recycle waste plastics generated from various SPC Group food and beverage stores such as Paris Baguette and Baskin Robbins. Starting with this, they plan to build an eco-friendly plastic circulation system that can include more small and medium-sized food manufacturers in the future.
SK General Chemical stated, "By combining SPC Pack’s diverse food packaging technologies including bakery, confectionery, and noodle packaging with SK General Chemical’s eco-friendly new material technologies, greater synergy is expected."
SK General Chemical is playing the role of a 'Green Solution Provider' addressing the waste plastic issue. Since 2019, SK General Chemical has been hosting the 'Eco-friendly Package Forum' to discuss collaborative measures for reducing plastic packaging waste in the packaging industry and to establish a circulation system for eco-friendly plastics. The collaboration between the two companies was triggered by SPC Pack’s seminar on eco-friendly packaging development at the 2019 forum.
