Dongdaemun-gu Accelerates Underground Power Line Project with 86.3 Billion KRW Investment
2019-2022: 86.3 Billion KRW Invested in Maintenance of 14 Sites over 15km Section
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is accelerating the underground wiring project worth 86.3 billion KRW to improve urban aesthetics and create a safe and pleasant walking environment.
This is one of the core projects promoted as part of the Dongdaemun-style Green New Deal policy focused on the environment and people, aiming to realize a pleasant and safe smart green city.
To this end, the district has been carrying out an underground wiring project from 2019 to 2022, investing 86.3 billion KRW to remove utility poles on roads and bury overhead electric and communication lines underground at 14 locations (15 km).
In 2019, Dongdaemun-gu promoted the underground wiring project for 2 locations (1.35 km) including in front of Hoegi Station, and in 2020, for 4 locations (3.78 km) including Dapsimni Movie Street.
This year, the district decided to expand the underground wiring project focusing on high-demand sections such as school commuting routes, and finally selected 3 locations (2.91 km) as the 2021 underground wiring project sites: Sagajeong-ro (Jeonnong-dong Intersection to Seoul Jeondong Elementary School), Gosan-ja-ro (Yongdu Neighborhood Park to Gyeongdong Market Intersection), and Jangan Cherry Blossom Road (Jangan Underpass to Jangpyeong Bridge).
In 2022, the project will continue to promote underground wiring at 5 locations (7 km), including school commuting routes and Imun-ro, to prevent student safety accidents and enhance pedestrian safety.
