230 Billion Won Invested in 'Yellow Traffic Lights', Expansion of Various Traffic Safety Facilities Including Speeding and Signal Violation Cameras... Traffic Safety Instructors Deployed to 10 Schools Leading Children to Daycare... Traffic Safety Campaign Also Launched
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “No safety issues for children in school zones!”
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is making every effort to strengthen safety in school zone areas for children.
On the 26th, Guro-gu announced, “To ensure the safety of children commuting to and from school in the area, we will expand traffic safety facilities, deploy traffic safety instructors, and conduct traffic safety campaigns.”
First, Guro-gu will install 73 ‘yellow traffic lights’ in five children protection zones including Sindorim Elementary School, Gosan Elementary School, Haneulsoop Elementary School, Guro Nam Elementary School, and Guro Samsung Daycare Center.
‘Yellow traffic lights’ are traffic lights with the existing black frame changed to yellow. They improve the visibility of traffic signals, reduce vehicle speeds, and raise pedestrian awareness.
Additionally, various traffic safety facilities such as 30 speed and signal violation enforcement cameras, safety fences, anti-slip pavement, safety signs, yellow carpets, ground-level pedestrian signals, crosswalk spotlighting, crosswalk voice guidance devices, and intersection alert systems will be expanded in children protection zones.
A total budget of 2.3 billion KRW will be invested for this purpose.
To ensure safe commuting for children, traffic safety instructors will also be deployed. Traffic safety instructors are part of a system designed to protect children from traffic accidents and various crimes.
During the school term, 26 traffic safety instructors will be assigned to 10 elementary schools in the district, including Gaebong Elementary School, Shinmirim Elementary School, and Hangdong Elementary School, to safely escort children home after school.
Guro-gu, together with Guro Police Station and Seoul Southern Office of Education, will also conduct a traffic safety campaign around elementary schools encouraging people to refrain from using smartphones while crossing crosswalks.
