Most Local Leaders and Metropolitan Council Members in Gwangju Own Land in Their Hometowns
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] It has been revealed that the mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City and most city council members owned land in their hometowns under their own or their spouses' names.
According to the asset disclosure status released on the electronic gazette by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 25th, Mayor Lee Yong-seop reported assets worth about 1.17 billion KRW, an increase of approximately 160 million KRW from 1 billion KRW last year.
The mayor declared rice paddies and forest land in his hometown, Hampyeong, Jeollanam-do, with a declared value of about 51 million KRW.
For buildings, he reported one apartment each in Seoul and Gwangju (jeonse lease) under his name, and a detached house in Hampyeong worth about 24 million KRW. The total declared value was approximately 1.139 billion KRW.
Kim Jong-hyo, the Deputy Mayor for Administration, reported assets of about 1.89 billion KRW this year, an increase of 100 million KRW from about 1.789 billion KRW last year.
He owns land in his hometown, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and apartments, multi-family houses, officetels, and detached houses in Gwangju, Sejong (jeonse lease), and Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.
Jo In-cheol, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy, reported assets of about 2.729 billion KRW, an increase of about 769 million KRW from about 1.96 billion KRW last year, and owns commercial properties in Seoul, Sejong, and Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do under his and his spouse’s names.
Kim Yong-jip, Chairman of the Gwangju City Council, reported assets of about 455 million KRW, an increase of about 144 million KRW from about 311 million KRW last year.
This included an apartment under his spouse’s name and a multi-family house (jeonse lease) in Gangnam, Seoul, under his eldest son’s name.
Assemblywoman Lim Mi-ran reported assets of about 8.281 billion KRW, an increase of about 3.55 billion KRW from about 4.731 billion KRW last year.
She owns farmland in Suncheon under her name, and rice paddies, farmland, and land under her spouse’s name.
She declared deposits of about 2.047 billion KRW and securities worth about 6.42 billion KRW.
The significant increase in Assemblywoman Lim’s assets compared to last year is due to the rise in the value of unlisted and held stocks, which increased her securities assets by about 3.862 billion KRW.
Assemblyman Kim Dong-chan reported assets of about 1.291 billion KRW, an increase of about 376 million KRW from about 915 million KRW last year. Assemblyman Kim Ik-joo reported about 31 million KRW, Assemblyman Kim Jeom-gi about 82.8 million KRW, and Assemblywoman Kim Hak-sil reported about 836 million KRW, a decrease of about 340 million KRW from last year.
Assemblywoman Park Mi-jung reported about 134 million KRW, a decrease of about 18.9 million KRW from last year; Assemblyman Ban Jae-shin reported about 106 million KRW; Assemblyman Song Hyung-il reported about 486.7 million KRW, a decrease of about 13.4 million KRW from last year; Assemblywoman Shin Su-jeong reported about 232 million KRW, a decrease of about 43 million KRW from last year; and Assemblyman Lee Kyung-ho reported about 2.089 billion KRW this year.
Assemblyman Lee Hong-il reported about 204 million KRW this year; Assemblyman Jang Jae-seong reported about 676 million KRW, a decrease of about 1.3 million KRW from last year; Assemblywoman Jang Yeon-ju reported about 122 million KRW, a decrease of about 30 million KRW from last year; Assemblywoman Jeong Soon-ae reported about 1.366 billion KRW; Assemblyman Jeong Mu-chang reported about 226.5 million KRW, an increase of about 56 million KRW from last year; and Assemblywoman Jeong Soon-ae reported about 136.6 million KRW, an increase of about 118 million KRW from last year.
Assemblyman Choi Young-hwan reported 7 million KRW, and Assemblyman Hwang Hyun-taek reported about 1.17 billion KRW this year, owning land worth about 5 million KRW in Gimje, Jeonbuk.
Assemblywoman Kim Na-yoon reported about -4.8 million KRW, a decrease of about 25.8 million KRW from last year, due to financial debts and other reasons.
Among basic local government heads, Dong-gu District Mayor Im Taek reported about 146 million KRW, Seo-gu District Mayor Seo Dae-seok about 973 million KRW, Nam-gu District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae about 543 million KRW, Buk-gu District Mayor Moon In about 1.756 billion KRW, and Gwangsan-gu District Mayor Kim Sam-ho about 795 million KRW.
