Yeosu-si Expands Emergency Weekend Care with One Additional Childcare Center
Addition of One Site in Old Yeosu Area (Baeulhak Kindergarten) Besides Two Existing Sites in Yeocheon Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 24th that it will expand the operation of emergency weekend daycare centers, which are operated for infants and toddlers who urgently need care due to changes in parents' economic activities and lifestyles, to three locations this year.
According to the city, the emergency weekend daycare center began pilot operation in 2019 at the municipal Ansan Daycare Center (Ssangbong-dong), the first in Jeonnam, and last year, the municipal Junghung Bodeum Nanum Daycare Center (Sora-myeon) was added to the operation.
This year, the private Baeulhak Daycare Center (Yeoseo-dong) located in the Gu-Yeosu area was additionally selected, enabling a more balanced regional hub-type weekend care service.
The emergency weekend daycare centers assign two childcare teachers to care for preschool infants and toddlers who urgently need care, such as children from dual-income families, during weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing children to be cared for up to three hours.
Any preschool child aged six months or older residing in Yeosu City can use the service free of charge, and elementary school students can also use it when accompanied by siblings.
To use the service, parents can call the daycare center in advance on the day of use and then visit to fill out an application form.
A city official stated, "The emergency weekend daycare centers have been a great help to parents who were looking for a place to urgently leave their children due to unexpected situations on weekends," and added, "As social demand for care increases due to changes in the childcare environment, we will strive to provide diverse and sustainable care services."
