"Received Growth Momentum" Wireless Earphone Market, Q4 Last Year Sales Up 43% YoY
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The global wireless earphone market continued its steady growth in the fourth quarter of last year.
According to a recent report on the global wireless earphone (TWS) market released by global market research firm Counterpoint on the 23rd, wireless earphone sales in the fourth quarter of last year increased by 13% compared to the previous quarter and by 43% compared to the same period last year.
By region, high sales were recorded in Asian regions excluding China, and Latin America and the Middle East & Africa regions, which account for less than 10% of the total market, recorded a 25% growth rate compared to the previous quarter. On the other hand, major markets such as North America and Europe showed signs of growth slowing down for the first time.
By company, Apple’s share decreased by 9 percentage points from the previous quarter to 27%. Although it still maintained the number one position in the global market, its market share has been declining over the past year. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ market share increased by 2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, showing a sharp increase in sales in major markets such as Europe in the fourth quarter. In particular, the Galaxy Buds Live showed strong performance.
By price range, the market under $100, which showed tremendous growth momentum until the middle of last year, slowed down somewhat this year, with its share remaining at around 55% in the second half.

Yoon Jeong Lee, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, said, “As COVID-19 vaccine distribution expands and consumer sentiment improves, sales of products priced over $100 are expected to increase. Major brands in the market are announcing plans to launch new products equipped with premium features, expanding consumer choices in the price range above $100.” She added, “Especially Apple, which is releasing new products for the first time in two years, is expected to be the biggest growth driver in the wireless earphone market this year.”
