Eurocell Develops World-Class High-Capacity Battery... "Technology Proven Through Defense Industry Application"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Eurosell announced on the 19th that it has succeeded in developing a high-efficiency battery with an energy density increase of over 150% at the same size.
The newly developed battery is a high-capacity ‘UHC battery’ applied with next-generation silicon anode material. Compared to existing unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) batteries, it has the same size but its capacity has increased by more than 150%. When equipped with the UHC battery, flight time can dramatically increase by more than 1.5 times compared to before.
Eurosell signed a ‘High-Performance Battery Development Agreement for Drones’ with ‘Yukon System,’ a company specializing in defense industry unmanned aerial vehicle development, in July last year, and as a result of conducting next-generation battery research, they have achieved the development of this next-generation battery.
A Eurosell official said, “Eurosell has already proven its outstanding technological capabilities by being the world’s first to develop next-generation batteries that increase capacity by 150% and 200% at the same size, respectively,” adding, “We succeeded in commercializing the battery with a 150% capacity increase first, and under the observation of employees from Yukon System and ‘Firstec,’ a subsidiary of the Hwasung Group, we confirmed that flight time increased by more than 1.5 times compared to before, which is expected to be world-class.”
He continued, “Existing drones had a maximum flight time of 19 minutes when equipped with lithium-ion batteries, but the test flight applying Eurosell’s UHC battery recorded a flight time of 32 minutes.”
Yukon System, which observed the demonstration, expects that the application fields of drones will greatly expand if high-efficiency batteries like Eurosell’s UHC battery are applied, considering recent trends in military operations and the increasing introduction of drones for civilian use such as by the National Police Agency. Firstec evaluates that the growth potential of next-generation batteries is high because the high-capacity UHC battery can be applied not only to drones but also to various defense industry fields such as military communication devices.
Eurosell CEO Sungwoon Yoo said, “Although the research environment became difficult due to COVID-19, we succeeded in developing a high-capacity UHC battery applied with nano silicon anode material, which is regarded as a representative technology of next-generation secondary batteries,” adding, “It is significant that the actual flight test results recorded performance more than 1.5 times higher than before, not just theoretical measurements.”
