[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Joe Biden stated that he will "discuss soon" the shooting incident that occurred in Atlanta, Georgia.
On the 17th (local time), while heading to the White House office, President Biden was asked by reporters about the shooting incident in Atlanta the previous day that resulted in eight deaths. He replied, "I will discuss it soon. See you shortly."
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki mentioned that President Biden would receive reports on the incident from Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray on the same day.
In a statement, Press Secretary Psaki said, "The President was briefed overnight on the horrific shooting in Atlanta," adding, "The White House has been in contact with the (Atlanta) mayor's office and will continue to coordinate with the FBI."
The day before, a shooting occurred in a Korean American-dense area of Atlanta, resulting in eight deaths and one injury. The suspect, Robert Aaron Long, a white man in his 20s, was arrested by the police. The incident, which happened amid growing concerns over increasing violence against Asian Americans, reportedly included a Korean American among the deceased.
