Hapcheon-gun, Reborn as a Hub-Type Lifelong Learning City
Providing Customized Education Curriculum Led by Residents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, plans to enhance its status as a hub lifelong learning city filled with learning and sharing by providing opportunities for customized education programs led by residents at every stage of life, starting with the opening of the Lifelong Learning Center on the 17th.
The county was selected for the Hapcheon-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project in 2014 (total 80 million KRW), invested 24.18 million KRW in the opening of the learning center, began construction in 2019, and completed it at the end of February this year.
The Lifelong Learning Center is a building with one basement floor and three above-ground floors (total area 1,061㎡), equipped with six lecture rooms including a large conference room and rest areas.
Additionally, part of the facility includes cooking education facilities and learning spaces for general households and multicultural families.
To solidify lifelong education programs for seniors and expand them to all age groups, the county plans to re-leap as a more advanced lifelong learning city by composing a diverse lifelong education platform.
County Governor Moon said, “I hope everyone finds bright energy in daily life, escaping the fatigue of the past year, and participates together in lifelong education to meet a greater self.”

Meanwhile, the county is the only one nationwide to operate a county-affiliated Chinese Classics University, along with 40 adult literacy classes in 17 towns and townships and commissioned education courses at university lifelong education centers. It was designated as a lifelong learning city by the Ministry of Education in 2014, and with the reevaluation of lifelong learning cities scheduled for 2022, the county stated it will work diligently to achieve good results.
